Posting Photobucket and FlickR images on the forum
« on: February 19, 2008, 07:15:22 AM »
It is real easy to host pictures on sites like Photobucket, or even Flickr

They are both very easy to use. Once you have uploaded a picture to either of them, they will give you an actual url type link for the each image you upload to either account. You can use the url's in a lot of ways. For use with our forum, you will simply take the url they give you for the image you have uploaded, and wrap these around the link.

Code: [Select]

Just place the [img]  codes as they appear above in front and on the tail end of the hosted image url link.

You can also simply place your mouse over the image you uploaded to either of these two photo hosting services, and you will see four types of links for that image. Just copy and paste the one that reads "img code". That will give the same results as the process above of adding the img codes to the "direct link" url..

Include with your forum posting and the image will appear after you post it.

Just ask for help if needed !

So we have Don's picture tutorial for FlickR..

This is for Photobucket.

You will want to do any editing and resizing to the image first. This is done from within the computer documents folder where you have stored the image.

Select "image" and then scroll down to "resize/skew"

Re-size to a reasonable size for displaying on the forum.

From within your Photobucket acct. "Upload image video".

Navigate your way through to what ever folder is holding that edited image within your computer.

Right click with your mouse and hit the "select"

Just place your mouse over the now uploaded image within your Photobucket and a box will appear with four options.

For the forum you want the IMG link.

Drop your mouse down and click on that. It will highlight to a blue color.

Now right click on the now highlighted blue IMG link and select "copy".

Now come back over to the forum box your creating a post in. Click once where you want the image to be placed.. Maybe on top, between or beneath some existing text you entered.

Then "right click" and scroll to "paste".

And finally........., here is what it will look like prior to "previewing" or "posting" your post to the forum.

The image will not actually show up while your still creating your post. Not until you preview or actually post.

Thank you George for that info.  I just created a flickR  account and will try it out with the pictures I just took today.

Cropping Your Images Prior To Uploading To PhotoBucket / FlickR
« Reply #4 on: June 15, 2010, 02:01:58 PM »
This is how it looks to crop an image via Windows Vista. Not sure how all platforms appear. Maybe they are similar and this will help a bit.

Cropping an image lets you eliminate all the unwanted useless space surrounding the object. If you don't crop the object out of the image, then when you resize the entire photograph, you loose a lot of the size to the actual object as well..

This first picture shows the entire original photograph. Click on the cropping tab ( A ).
Place you curser at a desired corner point. Click your mouse, hold the button down and drag the dotted square around the object ( B ).
Left click within that dotted square and scroll to "copy to" ( C ).

Copy it to what ever folder you want to save it to in your computer. Now your ready to upload the image from that folder to your Photobucket or FlickR account.

Cropped image....

I use windows photo gallery to adjust the color, brightness or crop size of the image.
Photobucket has an easy feature to resize a photo. After you upload the image, click on the image and a screen will pop up that will have a resize tab on the top. Click on it and it will have a drop down list. I use the 4th one down (I think it is the 17" screen size). After clicking on it it will ask if you want to resize. Click yes. Wait a few seconds and the resized image will appear and a bar on the left will say image resized. Click on the back arrow and hit save. The resultant image will be ready to post.
A good antivirus program will remove any potential viruses associated with Photobucket. I use a combination of the windows internet updates and ESET as my protection programs.

vitzitziltecpatl ( Vince ) just shared a link to FastStone. I have not downloaded it yet, but looks like a nice easy way to edit/resize images.

FastStone Photo Resizer is an image converter and renaming tool that intends to enable users to convert, rename, resize, crop, rotate, change color depth, add text and watermarks to images in a quick and easy batch mode. Drag and Drop mouse operation is well supported.

Thank you Vince !
