Well, I already have to eat some of the words I just posted. I did a little searching after posting and discovered the Idaho Gem Club (Boise) sponsored a field trip to the Queenstone site earlier this year so it's not entirely depleted.
John A. Beckwith, in his book "Gem Minerals of Idaho" says: "Gem quality jasper occurs in an extensive outcropping along Highway 95 in the low foothills approximately ten miles southeast of Marsing, Idaho." He describes it as "Delicately colored in tints of blue, yellow, brown, pink and green, it is known locally as queenstone. Fashioned gemstones from the material display attractive color patterns resembling landscapes, geometrical figures, and designs. It is fine-grained and solid; consequently, it takes an unusually high polish."
