Thanks for this tip.  I have been looking for just such a chart to post around the lap machine.  Now I have a good one.

Thanks for posting this chart.  It is and will be very helpful.  Might print, laminate and hang in the studio.

I may have mentioned this before but a couple of years back we were having a heck of a time getting a mirror polish on an obsidian cab in my class at William Holland. We were using diamond on moleskin up to 100,000 and the stone just would not pop. I remembered what an old rock guy told me in Quartzite. He said to use a rough leather pad with super cerium oxide.  I had some shipped in and the next day my student had  a fantastic polish.

I am so glad that everyone is still getting some use from this. I still refer to it time to time too. Great! Eric(Ajo)

I don't suppose anyone has this original list handy that they could share with me?  That original link that Ajo posted no longer works.  Thanks!

Nvm.  Just saw the link that someone posted to the original.  I do have a different question however.  Our program is being forced to use Alumina as a main polish instead of Cerium Oxide due to the increased cost and limited budget.  Does anyone have any feedback on the shortcomings of Alumina that I should be aware of so I can share with students?  thanks!
