Vince and I were hoping it was you that had got it. Went for starting bid price and at $195 that was really cheap. Where are you located? Sometimes you can find equipment for reasonable prices on Craig's List in your area. Also check out estate sales, etc. in the newspaper. You never know what you'll find.
Under $1,000 will definitely be difficult if you buy new. Any grinding machine or saw by itself is going to be near that or more new. If you haven't already done so, join a rock club in your area. Sometimes members have equipment for sale, too. Vince and I have saws in different sizes that we picked up from Ebay (14" drop saw) that we had to go pick up in Payson for around $300, an 10" ancient saw from our club for $50 (no motor), a 6" from a garage sale for $100, and I finally bought a 10" rebuilt Highland Park that I bought for Vince this year that was around $1,000 with shipping. (Vince loves saws). Of course, we didn't get them all at once. We've been collecting them for 6 years now.
Good luck!
