Have experience with Inland, but not like yours. In my opinion (others feel differently) you'd be lucky if they didn't confirm your order. Their machines have a place in the lapidary world, but if you really get into it you'll outgrow their machine pretty quickly.

I still have my Inland. It's now just a trim saw, and I have an MK blade on it. Bought a used Genie and a used 6" trim saw within a year of beginning to cut, and often thought the money invested in the Inland would've been better invested in the better equipment.

Inland laps are really good. Saw blades not so much. Only used the grinder drum once or twice.

Let us know how your situation progresses.

I ordered a dop pot from them! Four weeks later called and left a voicemail. two weeks later got an email saying they were having a supplier problem. Last week, about 6 months later, I get an email saying they are in stock.
Their all-in-wonder is basically junk. Went thru 5 motors the first year. I fixed my old dop pot.

Yeah, your post didn't say exactly what you were ordering. I assumed the All-In-Wonder. After seeing your post I saw this in the suggested items on an auction page. Robin and I each have one of these.

These units can be converted to 8" simply by ordering the spray shield on top. I did that and had the new one here within days. Thought about trying to buy this one myself, but it would be good if someone who really needs one could get it.

Hi Zurn.  I'm Vince's other half.  :D

As Vince said, we both have Hi-Tech flat laps.  I've owned mine since 2001 or so and have never had a problem with it.  It's still going strong.  I don't use it exclusively anymore, since we both also have Genies, but I do use it for backs of cabs and other stones that need slower speeds, etc.  I really like it and sometimes prefer it over the Genie. The Ameritool flat lap machine is also very good and on the same par as Hi Tech.  They both use the same discs.  If cost is not all that important to you, you could also look at Diamond Pacific's Bigfoot, which is more expensive, but uses wheels instead of flat laps.  It is a machine that has a very small footprint.  http://www.diamondpacific.com/bigfootgemmakerc.html

If I were you, I'd probably just cancel the order with Inland (and notify your credit card company, so they don't charge you) and purchase something else.  Inland has gotten a notoriously bad reputation lately regarding customer service and not receiving orders for long periods of time.  I think they should have just stuck with stained glass supplies, myself.

There is a 4" trim saw attachment you can buy for the Bigfoot for an additional $130.

I'm not D, btw, I'm Robin.  That was a smiley in just text.   lol15

Unfortunately, lapidary equipment is expensive, but if you buy decent equipment and take care of it, it will outlast you. Tben buying all the rocks starts adding up as you get more and more obsessed.  Kind of like stained glass -- just gotta have those new mottleds or opalescents or what have you, just because they're cool looking!

Oh yeah, I almost forgot -- if you do decide to buy a Bigfoot, don't order it directly from Diamond Pacific.  Do some research because you can get them cheaper elsewhere.  I did a real quick search and found it at Kingsley North (an excellent vendor) here:  http://www.kingsleynorth.com/skshop/products.php?catID=1066

Vince and I were hoping it was you that had got it.  Went for starting bid price and at $195 that was really cheap.  Where are you located?  Sometimes you can find equipment for reasonable prices on Craig's List in your area.  Also check out estate sales, etc. in the newspaper.  You never know what you'll find.

Under $1,000 will definitely be difficult if you buy new.  Any grinding machine or saw by itself is going to be near that or more new.  If you haven't already done so, join a rock club in your area.  Sometimes members have equipment for sale, too.  Vince and I have saws in different sizes that we picked up from Ebay (14" drop saw) that we had to go pick up in Payson for around $300, an 10" ancient saw from our club for $50 (no motor), a 6" from a garage sale for $100, and I finally bought a 10" rebuilt Highland Park that I bought for Vince this year that was around $1,000 with shipping.  (Vince loves saws).  Of course, we didn't get them all at once.  We've been collecting them for 6 years now.

Good luck!
