Greetings from AZ!
« on: November 12, 2010, 12:23:39 PM »
Hello all!

Glad to join this forum.  My husband and I are both lapidaries and love rocks.  We both started out cutting opal and actually met on an opal cutting forum.  I'm from Chicago originally (a lapidary wasteland), so it's refreshing to finally be in a place where there are more than a few rockhounds.  We belong to the local rock club (Prescott Gem and Mineral Club) and are involved in club activities as much as possible.  One of the club members is also an instructor at the local college, so we are also taking a lapidary class at the moment (basically for fun, although we have actually learned a few things).

We have a website that we maintain with all our goodies on it -- www.hummingbirdstones.com

I've been reading the forum the last few days and there are a lot of great tutorials that I need to try.  You all do wonderful things with rocks and I'm looking forward to joining in.

Robin

Hello from Tucson  (Green Valley actually).  yes it is great here in AZ.

Chicago a lapidary wasteland?  What about the Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art?
Stay healthy in 2011.  .  .  . and don't forget to eat some dark chocolate!

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Yep.  Chicago is a lapidary wasteland in terms of the amount of people actually cutting stones and the number of rock clubs around.  Everything is at least a 2 hour drive to get to and most people don't even know what the word lapidary means.

There is the Lizzadro Museum and the Field Museum for displays, though.

Here in Prescott, I'm surrounded by people who love rocks as much as I do!

Hi Mary Ann!

We were at the Sedona show.  We bought some slabs from you and Ralph.  :D  We're planning on going to Quartzite -- will you be there?

Welcome to the forum.  Prescott is a nice area.  We spent two weeks this Summer in Camp Verde and did the Jerome, Indian ruins, Sedona tourist stuff.  We really liked Prescott.  Met your club prez at Flagstaff show.

Hi Robin!  How funny, a friend of mine just sent me an email linking me to your page on Apache Gold (I have an unidentified cab that looks a lot like that material).  I'm in AZ too; welcome to the forum, it's good to have you here!
