Multiple Leather Cording Tutorial
« on: February 24, 2014, 07:46:09 PM »
A while back I read an article on this subject.  The problem was tightening the multiple leather cords.  In the article the lady used two nails hammered into a wooden board.  I tried that and found it difficult to work with.  I asked my husband if he could come up with something.  Below is his solution.

Ray always came up with a solution and would do just about anything for me.

The leather end is tied to the circle hook, then wrapped to the opposite hook.  This is done to however many wraps of leather you desire.  Tighten the leather then tie off the other end to the hook.  I used 2mm leather cord.
Notice the multiple holes Ray added.  Giving you the option of different size necklace cord.

Using a thinner leather cord 1mm or less to do the end wraps.

Make a loop and wrap five to six times.

Slide the end trough and into the loop.

Pull evenly on both ends.

Small amount of E600 placed where knot will set.

A set of pliers makes it easier to tighten the knot.

Use snips to cut excess leather cord as close as possible.

Permanent black magic marker to hide tan leather.

Example of finished look.
Thank you Ray for making this job easier.

Thanks for the tut.

I make multiple leather cords in a  similar manner, but use silver wire to tie off the ends.
Thanks for looking - Gerard

I would love to see how you end your multiple cording.  I find that many end caps are not appealing or pull off easily.

I welcome anyone who wants to add their twist or favorite cord ending technique.

Inspiration Girl... Yep I needed this so bad:)
I love the design on the pendant and it goes so perfectly with the braided leather:)  Very natural and flowing feel of nature:)

Dave he sure was.  I did not understand how special Ray was until he passed away.  The older we get the harder it is to grip and pull.  This little rig helps tighten the cording for a better necklace.

Thank you Sara.  I have to say the stone did most of the work.
