I'm setting gemstone, that I slab and shape using my primitive gear, in my silver rings and have now started doing mosaics with some off-cuts. They turn out so nice I'm making my own off-cuts from good stone!
I think what I'm doing is a bit like intarsia, but probably just mosaics. Anyway this forum seems like a good way to learn from you others and maybe show what I've done and discovered as well.
I've been making jewellery and eyeglasses - a self-taught and self-employed occupation - for a few decades now and delight in making my own tools and things as well. The gemstone rough work is a fairly recent addition, starting with New Zealand nephrite jade, then lapis and chryoprase. I like those bold colours.
I too wonder about making reconstituted stone from scrap and dust, and collect those bits as much as I can.
Now I need to figure out a way to make a simple guide for my simple 8" saw so I can saw slabs a certain width, and saw those slabs up into straight or slightly angled strips.
I'll ask these and probably many other questions in the appropriate forums.
So that's something from me for y'all ... buongiorno, bonjour, gidday, kia ora and cheers!
Brian
