One more - ribbon moss
« on: September 12, 2015, 08:37:23 AM »
Ok - one more from my online mine... Sorry for all the posts, but who doesn't like pretty rock pics ? :)

This one is about 3 pounds. There is reddish-brown grainy matrix still attached. The moss is red, orange and yellow ribbon on one end, and changes to filamentous moss in pink, cherry red, and white on the other end.

The matrix forms a white border where the agate starts.

First thought is it looks like a big thunder egg core - or maybe Maury mountain?

Thanks again!

It is neat looking, wherever it's from. I'll try to work up a cab from the end cut and see what happens.

Is configured kind of like a T-egg. I've seen photos of some Priday "Red Bed" that look similar.

Very nebulous like something the hubble telescope would see and therefore very cool.

I own a lot of Agua Neuva and I don't think it's that at all. Moss Color wrong and matrix not right.

That said that is one very fine moss agate take pains and care cutting it. It's very fine.

Thanks, I agree - from what I've seen it looks most like a large T-egg core in structure.

It's too big for my 10" saw, I was only just able to cut the window. I'll play with the end cut, but for now the main rough is safe from my novice stabbing skills. :)

The agate looks a lot like Hay creek out of Oregon, now closed. toilet21

Hmmm... The pink end looks a bit like Hay Creek, but I've never seen Hay Creek with the flat "ribbon" type moss. Did it produce material like that?

No. Hay Creek did not produce a moss like that.

While the one end of the agate that runs to pink color has a similar look the matrix with the white fleck and deeper red is wrong for hay creek.
