Makes sense to me. I just wish eBay would let me limit international buyers to minimum 50 transactions before they bid.

In other news I just realized this is my 50th post!

It really is amazing how often this subject comes up.   I've only been on this site for a blink of an eye too.  Bev

I, being a new member have no problem with this rule, to many other sites have turned into trash vendor sites and I for one would hate to see this turn into the same.. This, to me, is a social, informational, and instructional forum, not a store site.
I would however like it if admin would create a page / forum/ or whatever that member sellers can post a link to their sites so that member like me can buy slab/rough  from them rather than spend money with people of unknown repute. Thus keeping our money in the "family"
Thank you kindly for listening to my tirade.  Charles

you have the banners at the top. some are current, some are for people who have not been here in a while. also, they are not strictly an endorsement. they do hold out promise of a site for someone you may have interacted with on the board.

beyond that I think things are problematic. the site would have to decide who deserved to be on the list, and what happens if there is a complaint/dispute. not a good place to be. and even if no problems, it would have to be maintained, an additional task for a volunteer overworked admin.

interact, get to recognize folks, look for things offered in the buy/sell section. see if you can match up banners with active members ... etc.

To be honest, I found this site when doing a search for Fordite to buy. I did not know there were rockhound forums out there (duh!), I've done plenty of searching, but usually for specific things and never thought to look for a forum.
Anyway when the admin contacted me and asked why I wanted to join, and if I planned to sell - explaining the rule, I thought "what would I have to sell to folks doing the same thing as me?"
I don't have any problem with the rule, but after reading and searching thru this site, perhaps at some point I will have something that someone here may find of interest.
This is an awesome site, been reading the tons of old threads and really enjoying all there is to learn.
I'm not new to rock hounding or Lapidary work, so I will chime in now and then, but for now, just devouring information. Walt

I have ZERO objection to the 50-post policy, and intend to try for barter rather than selling anyway.  What is driving me bonkers is that I cannot FIND the shop & swap section.  I tried a link from this thread, but it did not return a current thread result.  Could someone drop me a link to where the current shop & swap is so I can bookmark it for when I do meet the post requirements?  help26

Shop and Swap is not visible to anyone who does not yet have 50 posts.  That was something the previous Admin, Aaron set up as we were having a lot of problems.
Hopefully the link Mark gave you above works for you.

I was wondering if needing 50 posts might be the case.  I have no problem since i have 100 times the amount needed, so i can go directly there, passing go but not collecting $200, dang!

Mark and Amanda:
I thought the 50 post rule was for selling only. I though you could buy as long as you were a member. Been too long for me to remember, but I thought I had read access to the swap and sell from as soon as I joined. Boy I'm old........ dunno28
