You will see ads start cropping up on the forum.
We are about to run out of ad-free credits.
Currently unless it becomes a huge problem, we are not going to buy any more ad-free credits as we are hoping to move this forum to a private server, meaning then we won't have ads anyways. Why buy ad-free credits when it will be moot hopefully soon...

For those of you who haven't looked at the Announcements...
George has given the forum over to me. I have added Phishisgroovin as a second admin, and Lithicbeads and Hummingbirdstones are now both Global Moderators.
We will be making some changes here and there to hopefully make your forum experience bright and sunny! We are looking into cheaper hosting service for the forum, and if we find a cheaper host we will be doing a move. Right now we pay more a month here to keep things ad free and purchase disk space than some forums pay for almost a half of a year with unlimited disk space for images. As soon as we find ourselves something suitable, we will let you know. SMFforfree is not free. You pay to keep it ad free, you pay for image storing space, and you have to pay for features as important as a database backup. bricks21 That said, we are on the hunt.

Forum Related Announcements / A Couple Changes

I will not be coming around much at all for quite a while. My Health has shown small improvement but now I am dealing with health issues with my Husband.
That said I have made a couple changes to help y'all out a bit..
1) Redrockrods is now the official Moderator of the contest area. I made sure to fix that today so he can edit the posts in there and set up polls and pin the topics etc. If you have contest questions, he is your go-to.
2) I have removed myself as the listed moderator for the Contest forum and the Jewelry area of the forum.
As always should you have an urgent need, please, do NOT contact me because I am not around. I resigned as admin last year. I pop in only now and then when I have a moment.
That said feel free to contact Taogem for any admin related problems, or the other moderators - Michael Hoover, Hummingbirdstones, and Catmandew. They are your go-to folks if you have any problems.

Our Place / Missing Earrings

This is an APB for a missing pair of earrings!
Many of you know I frequently enter the Jewelry Contests that Fire Mountain Gems holds every year. I sent in my Seed Beads category piece to them a couple months ago now and two weeks ago I was notified the earrings that go with the necklace have come up missing!
At this point we have no reason to believe they are anything but misplaced. Susan, who leads up the Contests is pretty beat up over this. I've tried to reassure her that everything is OK and that now and then these things just happen.
Should you see this pair of earrings on a person, listed on an Etsy shop or Ebay or any other place online or at a show, please know that they belong to me and please contact me ASAP or Susan Phelps at Fire Mountain Gems. Her email is: phelpss@firemtn.com

Contests and Competitions / Patience please

I love y'all.
I have had some messages appear regarding why people haven't received prizes yet. My past few months have been hell, and that's being polite about it.
I will TRY to get those packages out this week.
We thought we had my health problems straightened out with a new diet, however that seems to have been short lived. I'm back to square one and want to just simply cry every day because it is so frustrating when you want to get out and do things and you cannot even leave the house at times for fear of not being near a bathroom when you need it.
Then there is the mess with my Aunt, who died three weeks ago, and my poor Uncle who is trying to pick up the pieces. Since I'm really the closest thing to family he has down here in this area I've been thrust into the middle of things. I'm doing what I can for him within what I'm allowed to do. I have no POA for him and I'm technically not his blood relation. His son who is his POA and lives back east seems to want nothing to do with helping his Father. This has left me to carry a bit of a stress load.
Add onto this that Social Security screwed up and my Uncle is in quite a bind. He did the right thing and the day after my Aunt died, he called Social Security to report her death and have her checks stopped. Well two days later money hits his bank account, he thinks it's his check (He's 73) and so he pays bills. It's still not enough of course because he is almost two months behind on his mortgage and his car payment as well due to the mountain of medical bills from my Aunt. Well earlier this past week Social security deposited cash into his account. He's not completely lucid enough at times to realize two social security checks in a month spells a problem and a mistake someplace. So he went and used the money on more bills. Thursday he goes to the gas station to get gas in his car and finds his card declined. Puzzled he goes to his bank and he is informed his account was frozen due to Social Security wanting their money back. So he treks up to the Social security office in Phoenix to figure out the problem. They inform him that they froze it to get back my Aunt's Social security that they screwed up on and put into his account. And that they cannot unfreeze that account till the money is recovered. They also said they could not help him in any way till his phone meeting with them on the 7th of April. So he has a bank account that is frozen at least for a minimum of two weeks with no access to money to get gas, food or pay bills.
It's not like he can go out and get a job either. He's just not all there upstairs mentally. I blame it on normal aging and the stress of taking care of my Aunt all those years. Peter and I are doing our best to help him any way we can. Tomorrow I'm taking him food and a gift card to a local grocery store that also has a gas station at it so he can use the gift card for both food and gas. If I had a POA I'd call Social Security myself and raise some hell. I can understand them wanting their money back, but cripes he did the right thing and reported her death and they screwed up and paid out the cash when they shouldn't have and now he has to suffer for it?
So sorry folks, things are in an uproar here. I will try very very hard to get the two packages out this week. Please be patient with me. This is why I stopped doing the contests because I could see these problems coming and I didn't want pissed off forum members.

When the voting is done on the current contest we just finished, I will be mailing out the last of the slabs we have from Tony (Catmandew) that were purchased and donated for the contests.
I've had a lot going on in my life and as you all well know I resigned as admin last summer. So far things haven't really gotten much better in my life and my Aunt who is dying of cancer is now in her final days/weeks.
All this said I am no longer going to be holding The Monthly Cab contests. If someone else wants to raise the banner and continue with them, you have my blessings.

Since winter is a slow time for contests I'm holding this one for two months as well. This allows some of you who might be away at Quartzite right now some time to cut something when you get back!
For new members not familiar with how these contests work.
Entries are cabs only. Completed during this contest period. Not cabs pulled from the drawer.
Please include a pic of the original slab, then a pic of the preform, and finally, the finished cab.
Please try to remember at least a pic or two of the original slab and or preform..
Feel free to share with us what ever you like about the mineral, and or what ever else you would like to share.
You can enter any shape cab and your choice of mineral.
Things like intarsia, finished jewelry, carvings and composite type cabs can not be entered in an effort to keep the contest somewhat fair by just entering free form style cabs.
Remember, this is all in fun. yippie24 Just a little something we do together as a group. More about just joining in, and having some fun.
