Things just changed a bit.
I will be at Quartzite this Friday instead of Saturday for the BBQ.  My friend who was my ride there got her days messed up and confused and scheduled time off from work for Friday, and then invited other friends for Friday.  So I guess I'll see y'all on Friday!  I will still bring Cookies for the BBQ, I'll just hand them to Tony a day early!

Hi everyone! It's been a while since I've checked in. Lots of changes but nice to see so many old friends. I am at Quartzsite again this year, just moved my stuff over to the Pow Wow yesterday. Stop by and say 'hi'! I'm in booth 213 right next to highland park!  yes16

Probably a bad idea to give away my secrets, but for 3 years in a row now I have been able to book a room at the Quartzsite Super 8 hotel within just a couple days of going down there.  It will show as sold out 6 months in advance, but if you check with them a couple days ahead of time rooms always seem to come available.  I don't know if its last minute cancellations or if they just hold some rooms for last minute guests.  But like I said, 3rd year in a row I've booked a room less than 72 hrs before check-in.

The down-side is the price...I could get a nice room here on the Vegas strip for the same price (almost $150 after taxes).  But when I don't have to camp out I can drive the wifes car down instead of my truck and spend half the gas money.  Doesn't quite make up the difference, but it helps.

The up-side...the hotel is just up the street from Desert Gardens (where Tony's booth/BBQ is at).  You don't even need to cross the freeway.  So the convenience factor is huge.  And when I have to make the run down as an overnighter it affords me the opportunity to be comfortable and get the most out of my two days.

So I will see you all Sat night.
And next year if one of you snakes my last minute room I'm gonna kick myself for making this post!!

...oh, and I will also demand that you let me sleep on the floor.

Went over to Quartzsite on Wednesday for the opening day of the Pow Wow.  For us it's a one day visit (4 hours from San Diego area), so it's hard to see it all and visit much.  Sorry I missed chatting with so many members.
It was MUCH busier than it has been the last few years. I've been going for about 15 years off and on, and steadily for the last 5.  It was crowded all over town, with the biggest crowds at the Tysons Well's show. They were parkin' in the wash, like the good old days.

At the Pow Wow there were plenty of shoppers, too, and lots of great vendors. I always try to find new or less available materials and I was not disappointed.  Pat McMahon returned from a year off with loads of high end Agates (with Inclusions). Pricey, but worth every penny. Phillip was there from Rare Rocks and Gems with Feather Ridge and Linda Marie plumes.  (I liked the quality of the the LM better than the FR). Klaus Klement from K&D had his new Hijo Del Sol agate from a new dig in Chihuahua.  It was mostly a little small, but I snagged two nice sized nodules with great color and pattern. I also found some killer Turkish Needle agate (a personnal quest of mine). Also, cool stuff at Christopher Anthony Designs (Christopher1234) and The Gem Shop. I visited Zippy Rocks and Tony at Idaho Rock Shop on my early trip to Desert Gardens, but don't leave them out if you go.

A couple of vendors had Morrisonite.  Nice material but the slabs were a little thin for the price, but beautiful none-the-less.

Please stop by Lucky Strike and say "Hi" to Cindy.  Kop passed away just after his birthday.  He'll be missed.

I was so busy shopping I forgot to take pictures.  I'll try to post some of my finds soon.  Goin' to the Cady's Sunday.  yes16 yes16 yes16

The BBQ was fantastic.  Saw lots of old friends and made some new ones.  I should be a little more active over at 'the other' forums once in a while I guess, lots of good folks from over there also.  But Tony always throws a hell of a party.  I hope someone took some pictures.  I took exactly zero photos yesterday (with the exception of a cellphone pic of a morrisonite slab that Tony has...its epic!).  I'm going to try to take some of the shows this morning before I head home, but I missed getting pictures of everyone at the BBQ.

Too many rocks to list as usual. I'm slowly loading down the wifes car as I empty my wallet.  This year is shaping up to be another successful one for me at Quartzsite.

Hi all,

I have the opportunity to be in Quartzsite Jan 23-24. Any selling going on then or rockhounding to be done in the area? I'd be driving down from Las Vegas.

Thanks!

The QIA Pow Wow should be going on the 23 and 24 of January, along with all the traffic from the Sports show that brings the big crowd and congestion to town.
