dremel flex shaft tool

I am wondering, from all you that have the dremel flexible shafts.

How long have you used yours, how long do they last before you have to replace the whole shaft?

I have had 3 Dremels and one flex shaft for them. The switches give out in the Dremels, but I haven't worn out a shaft. I used the same one for 3 or so years before I upgraded to a Grobet, then a Wecheer and finally Foredoms.

Have you been cleaning and lubricating the shaft? It's recommended that it should be done every 40 hours of use, and this goes for all flex shafts.

The other thing about Dremels: I got a brand new Dremel a few years back with a flex shaft and it ran bumpy. I could feel that something wasn't right, and the motor got really hot, also. I returned and replaced it, and didn't have problems with the new one. Some of them are just defective.

my shaft was greased so maybe they don't grease them anymore. 4 years and going strong, no problem with the flex shaft, will wear out the motor first. Biggest issue is rust on the hand piece and small chuck due to being wet when working.
