18" Saw blade
« on: April 21, 2019, 06:58:34 PM »

I recently got a Lortone LS18 and am in need of a new blade. I am still learning to cut and polish but have not had to purchase much equipment. Was hoping that someone might be able to tell me what I should be looking for and where should I look.  Mainly, I imagine, I will be cutting slabs of stuff like petrified wood and jaspers!!

MK 303 is the standard blade most people use, it is a good one.

Are new to cutting rock with that saw?
If so I would go with a blade from Kingsley north that is a lot cheaper than a Mk 303
If you have a rock shift in the saw and you bend the blade it won’t break your heart so badly to buy another one.  I use the Kingsley north blades in my 18” saw and they work just fine.

Excellent point. I cut large rocks on my 10 inch tile saw , hand held  ,and use the cheap mean green blades so when I dink one  it is not so upsetting.

I admit to being addicted to the 10 inch tile saw .I make a big pile of rough and whack away for about 45 minutes at a time. I can cut a huge pile of preforms in that time and cut a dozen pieces of jade to see if there is anything interesting under the oxidation skin.It is exactly the same joy as the first time I cut a rock open.
