Snowshoe District Argentum
« on: February 16, 2024, 03:39:16 AM »

Walking home the other day I came up on a pile of rocks some tweaker dumped out of the side of the road (sorted, semi-interesting and abandoned- all trademarks of the wild tweaker and their piles) and this chunky chunk of Ag/Pb ore with chalcopyrite or marcasite was in it.

Lincoln Co. Montana is renowned for their world class silver ore. It is mined from the metamorphosed marine sediments of the Belt Supergroup, Pritchard fm. aged approx. 1.5 billion years old.

Keep your tips up! Never know what's waiting for you to glance down at it.

Nice find!

As a lover of all things metallic in stones, that's just simply delectable looking.

Oh, it is. The mineralization is throughout the specimen and is both grainy and platy in places. A feast to hold and behold.
