I think you did the right thing by polishing it for a specimen.  It's way too beautiful to cut up.  I don't know if I would be able to part with it if it were mine.  I'm kinda sentimental that way.   :icon_sunny:

That's a gorgeous material and a beautiful piece to display whole; I agree, the whole piece has something that individual small pieces would not.

Beautiful! I wouldn’t touch except to polish it, as you did.

The holidays have reduced my inventory of collector pieces.
Back in the freezing shop today..... fire in the stove and warm water in the water supply bucket, I managed to get through this one.
46x27x7mm
Two sided, flat polished and a double taper on the girdle. Second shot shows girdle pretty well.

I ground this one out last night.
42x22x7  Polished both sides. Straight girdle. Could not do much removal or I would have lost the spray of realgar.
Probably a wire wrap piece for someone.

I finally braved the ice and got the unit running last night.
Here is a two sided piece with the double taper girdle and a bunch of druzy.

A lot of stuff just looks nicer if you have a bigger piece.  I've made the mistake of cabbing a nice looking rock ... only to be disappointed in the cab.   You have to have some tight or smaller detail to make a cab work for a lot of stuff.  I slabbed a nice jade, ocean polished rock a few years ago ... it was beautiful as a ocean polished jade ... sucked as cabbing material.  I am a "fixing" to do it again though ... have this really nice ocean polished teal colored jade piece from jade cove .... but I'm gonna slab it and see what it looks like.  I guess its a matter of perspective or orientation ... if you collect agates you probably collect slabs or halves and love to look at them.  I cut cabs and make jewelry ... so I'm always looking at rough with an eye to how I can cut it and make something out of it. I like a lot of rough in big sections ... Norrena jasper, some poppy jaspers, etc ... I cut small cabs mostly and they just lose their appeal in small cabs.  I mostly go for color nowadays as I can make that work.

Beautiful piece!  That would make a great two-sided pendant.   :occasion14:
