Beautiful green stuff
« on: September 14, 2018, 05:26:49 PM »

Our gem and mineral club in Worcester, Mass. Went on a field trip to the Havey Tourmaline quarry near Poland, Maine.  The pit is in a Pegmatite zone with abundant quarts and mica. We were allowed to dig and sift through tailings inside the pit. A few of our lucky members walked away with some small Elbaite green specimens. I had no luck in finding any crystals. So I visited with the miner at lunch and he sold me this specimen.

Yep. A fine specmen, at that!

Our rule is that we can't cut something like that until we get a better one... .

That's beautiful.  I definitely would have to just keep that one.   :icon_sunny:
