hi everyone, hubby and i will be traveling around Lake Superior this summer. can anyone tell me where i can go to collect rocks and minerals around this lake? and maybe boondocking too. please please help :cheesy:

Petosky stone (fossil stone) can be found in that general area. I have not personally been there but I googled it and found this:

Chlorastrolite - or the common name in Michigan is the Greenstone is a great find on the east shore of the lake near Ontonagon. Dime sized cab of Greenstone can sell for $75 and up.
You did not say Where going on Lake Superior but on the Keweenaw peninsula is a great rock shop. They used crushed hematite for driveway gravel - interesting just in it self but in general, the rock shop is a great place to visit.

thanks for the info...we are starting from collingwood ontario, heading north to sudbury then west to thunder bay then south in to michigan around the water front(s) back towards the Soo then south to petosky. from there east to the boarder and south to tillsonburg to visit my son. heading back north past sarnia along the waterfront to owen sound and back to collingwood. this gives you the gist of the tour. i'll be especially happy to be stopping in schriber for fossils and pearl for amethyst followed closely in keweenaw for copper and near petosky for petosky stones.

there is a green stone along the waters from thunder bay and south along shoreline well into the states thats called thomsonite? something along that line is a good rock to cab too.
