Good luck, I saw some cool dino at the Denver show, one face polished piece of about 1 pound was $6.5k. It was very nice.

There is no such thing as cheap gem bone.  Even crappy dino bone is not cheap.  Go to some local gem and mineral shows or perhaps watch for estate sales where they advertise equipment and rocks and you may luck out and find a piece.  Most folks into rocks know what it is and how pricey it is, so you never know when you'll get lucky.  Usually the people who run estate sales or the survivors of an estate don't know anything about rocks and you can get excellent prices.  Good luck!

At the Agate Expo, I saw Gem bone from $1.00 to 10.00 per gram in slabbed and rough.  Some individual pieces were even higher having been face polished.  Good luck and as mentioned, check estate sales and join the local rock club.  Somebody there might be willing to share

The words "cheap" and "gem" rarely go together. Rare and beautiful almost always equals more expensive.

I looked at ebay under gembone dinosaur bone.  There were several hundred listings and only 2 that I would consider gem bone.  If you want decent quality agatized dino bone, there  is a lot of decent bone available and at fairly reasonable prices with the better red and yellow colors having the higher prices.  Unless you find an estate sale with some good bone, the prices I see on most of the pieces on EBAY are decent if the material is solid.

I personally will not buy bone without handling the material as I am concerned with cracks, pits, soft spots and weak matrix between the cells.  Mark Anderson gave a talk at the Agate Expo on Gem Bone.  He is known for his inlayed rings and other jewelry with bone.  I have not yet watched the DVD with his presentation.  He had a variety of bone including bone replaced by pyrite.
