Malachite from Southern Nevada
« on: October 28, 2018, 11:35:52 AM »

Pulled this down from a mine I work in Southern Nevada. Piece weighed 91 pounds before I cut it up.

Not any more. I slabbed it up. I have seen some other large chunks out there I may bring down from the mine one day. But I am after other things there right now.  Here is some material from the mine that would really make a cool sphere, but this stuff is hard to find.

That is very interesting! It looks like it may need to be stabilized for a sphere

It did not require stabilization for cabbing. The matrix is a purplish quartz. Just really hard to find since the mine is loaded with the quartz but not all the quartz has this veining. So you have to check each piece carefully looking for the veining. Have found a couple large chunks of this that are sitting out in the yard somewhere.

Thank you. Copper ores are my favorite.
