Yukon sunflower
« on: January 18, 2020, 11:59:05 PM »

I was given some Yukon nephrite jade around 2 years ago, this little flower has been sitting in my may finish one day draw for easily 1 year, a very challenging piece, its fully undercut close to the middle, getting in to sand out the carving tool marks has been challenging but they are removed to 240 grit, I rarely carve stone that is not Australian but this is great color and was given to me direct from the mine, very hard nephrite easily 6.5 making it very slow to work.

Thanks, I hope to finish this before Easter, one of my entry,s in our national carving section, I have my polish great on Aussie nephrite jade but this may be challenging with the chrome spots.

That almost looks like idocrase, I hope you can get the flat petals to polish up smoothly...

That is amazing.  Where you get the patience is beyond me.  When you finish it, it will absolutely glow!
