Dealing with imperfections...
Rooi:
I wonder if someone can help. I have this crazy lace agate I acquired, it in my opinion is quite beautiful, but I found there is a cavity in the eye in the lacework formations. Is there a way of dealing with this to keep a continuous smooth finish on the stone? What options are there and which are advised?
Thanks

IMO: Leave it natural. Like many stones your cabochon has a number of imperfections. You have a nice shape and good finish. The stone has minor imperfections. Yes, you can use a fracture sealer that may hide the imperfections or not.
I know a guy who use to say terrible things about Graveyard Point Plume Agate because it had pits and fractures in most pieces. Now he sells tons of it and has learned that many of those pits are full of druzy agate and many of the other flaws actually add to the beauty of the cabochon when cut properly. Like many things it is in the eye of the beholder.

When I used to compete in cabs before I got tired of the politics I had a display of Horse Canyon cabs, some were dendritic and had a large druzy pocket in each that I designed the cab around, they judged me down calling them "pits". My wife suggested I put in a case of geodes and label it "This case is the pits".
I find when you leave a natural edge of druzy or crystals on a cab or design a cab around a druzy pocket in the surface that these are the ones that people will look at and like first.
If it was a spot in the agate I would grind further or move on but in the center of the crystal pocket, well that is nature and what people should expect and I think most do.

A beautiful natural feature.
