I need some help on the slab saw. What would be the best saw oil to get for it?
Im still looking for a motor for it. Im waiting to here from a friend about a motor.

Go to Wally World & get a couple quarts of store brand baby oil. Works just as good as expensive lapidary cutting oil, cheaper & smells good too. 

Only put in enough oil to come up 1/4" on the bottom of the blade.

Or the dollar store.  Or the feed store for one gal jugs of livestock laxative. I don't think you need a lot for a small saw.  My 24" saw takes 15 gallons ( it's a old home built)

The PDF i found for this saw says to use 1 1/3 gallon is what it takes.
1/4 to 1/2 to cover the blade.

I still need to get a trim saw.
There is more equipment i want to get.

I have another question for you guys about the blade(s).
It does have a blade that came with it. I will get photo(s) of it.
I dont know how to tell if its still good or not. I guess it will be good to learn with.
I will post a photo of it in the next day or two. I have been pretty sick for about the last week.

That 10" saw will work as a trim saw. Just run the vice all the way back out of the way. There should be a spray guard just inside of the hood. Just move the plastic part of the hood out of the way.

That is the same 10" slab saw I have (maybe a slightly different year, but basically identical to mine).  I bought mine off of a member here a few years back (Rockoteer).  It is a workhorse of my shop.  Whenever I am out in the shop it is running.  It is a fantastic saw.  Once you get it dialed in and running well it cuts some of the nicest slabs.  At only 10" you are limited on size of rock you can cut, but before I got my 18" saw to handle bigger stuff I got around the problem by using a hammer and chisel to break larger pieces of rough into sizes this saw would handle.

This saw does not work as a trim saw.  The design does not facilitate such use.  I suppose if a guy wanted to be stubborn enough you could make it work, but it would never be effective as a trim saw.

Looks like my ST 10.  Mine came equipped with a trim table to replace the vise, turning it into a trim saw.  I've never used it 1) because of the changeover hassle; and 2) because of the mess.  I think you'd be much happier with a dedicated trim saw.   But it's truly a workhorse of a slab saw.

Hi Rockoteer:  Thanks much for posting the url to the mineral oil laxative.  How does this mineral oil compare to the Diamond Pacific or Covington rock saw oil products, to the extent you can elaborate?  In essence, are they rather comparable and in your opinion would they work in a 20-inch saw?  Reason I ask is mostly economics - you showed me a product costing far less that what I have paying, and shipping is free as well with orders over $50.

Rockoteer is right on this one as far as I am concerned. I run this oil in my 24" Frantom, and my 12" lortone slab saw with no problems and great results.   I have to clean it up regularly but I do not worry about toxicity unless it is coming out of the rock I am cutting.

I use it in my 14" saw and it works very well.  I lot of people on this forum use it.  That's how I found it.  The price is right and
if you order a case (4 gals) the shipping is free if you are in the U.S.  I have not used the Covington stuff so I can't say how it is.

I recently bought a gallon of the large animal laxative oil at Tractor Supply to use in my 10" Raytec slab saw.  It is a lower viscosity  than the "rock oil" clear mineral oil that I had been using. At this time of the year, my saw is in the sun most of the day. As we move toward winter the sun will behind the motorhome and the saw will be in shade again. With the lower viscosity and the heat from the sun, I am seeing a lot of oil vapor coming out of openings in the cover when the saw is cutting.  Checked out the human mineral oil at Walmart the other day and it is higher viscosity than the animal laxative oil. It also works out slightly cheaper per gallon even bought as multiple small bottles.  Will be using this in future and blending it with the laxative until the laxative oil is gone.

What did you pay per gal. of the lax at the Tractor Supply?

everything Jerrysg said could have been from my own experience.  The last time I checked horse laxative prices at Tractor Supply it was in the $18 range, although it occasionally is closer to $15 when on sale.  I too blend Walmart human mineral oil laxative with the lighter horse stuff, and especially prefer the lighter stuff in winter when my shop starts the day cold and hence oil does not drip off of the slabs as fast until the oil has warmed.  The quantity buy with free shipping sounds like a good way to go, but I'm seldom that organized and clean saw spasmodically and suddenly realize I need a bit more oil.  I use 3 gallons in a 12" saw and a bit more in my trim saw.  I don't use water in anything but the cab machine.
