Photobucket extortion
« on: June 28, 2017, 04:40:01 PM »

After bombarding the system with adverts, it looks like Photobucket disabled any and all pictures unless one upgrades to a paying scheme, on 3rd. Party links.

That would be the only reason to upload to Photobucket in the first place.
I have used it for nearly 7 years to upload here and other forums so as not to stress the capacity of forums.
Now it seems, any and all pictures of mine will be lost on the forum, unless I pay up.

I'm sorry, but I will not give in to extortion!
Rather will start again from here on out with another system, and wipe any and all connection with that "£$%!

If anyone is looking around and finds a good hosting service, please let other forum members know.

This is the new path that companies are taking.  They offer something for free, and then once it has become integral to the lives of millions, they say "sorry, we're charging now".  That or their "free" service turns into limited options that are overwhelmed by advertising.
I get that it costs these companies money to stay in business, but it's long past time they are made to practice that up front.
I am not very fond of having any new regulations or laws put in place, but I make exception here.  If a company offers a service and wants to use the word "free", it needs to be exactly, and fully, that: Free.   No advertising, no entrapment business plans, etc.
The level to which businesses are using these underhanded methods today is worthy of being deemed "scam".  "Extortion" also works very well.

I've been using Tumblr for its simple interface and free posting. If you are consistent with tags you can sort images pretty well on there too, but because they update their servers periodically links tend to need updating every 10 months or so.

I think that PB can charge what ever they want, when they want.  I know they started out free but times change and we must change with them.  They are not holding your photos 'hostage', anyway not mine.  I have been moving them off PB to my PC on the QT and the downlow.  (just a little humor).  If I can no longer use them to post here I will find some other way.
I recall that RedBox was only a dollar a movie and now they are 1.50.  Still a bargain.
I also recall that the bank I worked at had free checking for a long time and then started charging.
We can grouse about it or move on when this happens but we know its going to happen.
Okay, I'm done.

Re-activated Flikr account and find that they improved a lot.
So will upload from there in future.
Way less adverts, very quick and once you know your way round, very easy to use.

links are as good as photos......( html )
And if you use Picasa 3. ALL    HTML CODES free.
do a web-folder and list the page.

For those with web sites. I have a page for  i use to build a link page on.

   image shack .......  caution

as i was told when i used a free host for photos.  here on this site.
Went back to view......Dream photos for all  ( xxx link ADS. )

On the web address bar   Select all ..... Copy...... enter all in bar.

in pass i would only enter one at a time.

DOS  3.o has sure changed since 1999. when i started my web site.

There aren't free sites any more, though you can still cheat your  way around.

I agree that PB is so F&^%$#@ full of ads you can hardly do anything.  It has been taking me a long time to xfer my pics to my pc.
When this is done PB can kiss my you know what goodbye.
I can post pics to Ebay directly from my PC real easy now so other than this forum I don't need a hosting site.

Have a good day everyone.

Also it's roundabout and has a more cumbersome upload interface, but Deviantart is basically free image hosting. I use their sta.sh image uploading for storing images I want to post elsewhere all the time. I think there is a content limit somewhere but I haven't hit it yet. Main profile posting doesn't have a limit, I believe. There are ads for non-subscribers but not nearly as intrusive as PB and generally all sfw, though they will sometimes swallow half your screen to market a video game or something.

"I know they started out free but times change and we must change with them."

That's a dangerous mindset.

www.nearlyfreespeech.net

Once you set up a domain name and hosting you only pay for the bandwidth used each month. For people like us using this for image hosting it's PENNIES a month.
