Well, this has been a less than stellar week. A large coober pedy opal that is 35 years old at least and seemed filled with red fire suddenly crazed before I could carve it. I finally got around to working on some Spencer Idaho opal with very bummer results. The solid only has fire ( though very bright) in one corner ( and a little in another corner). The largest And most promising doublet ( that looked clean bright green And blue almost all the way around from the side) yielded a highly included stone when I ground down to it, which took forever. I’m undecided if I should even bother capping it. It’s just rough ground. Meanwhile, the labradorite doublet isn’t even finished being polished and is astonishing. Maybe I should stick to that because it’s much easier on my pocketbook.
