orienting lattice sunstone
« on: June 11, 2017, 01:36:53 PM »

Has anyone tried orienting the so-called rainbow lattice sunstone? I believe this is a cab grade feldspar that throws off schiller in a way that it appears in different colors and almost forms a lattice. Any thoughts on what, if anything, can be done when the orienting angle seems to be off so that you have to hold the stone at an angle to get the effect to show well? Picture below.

Schiller stones should be trim sawed and cabbed with a bare , not frosted bulb, coming over your shoulder near your head.

The ones I have seen have all been cut to show off the lattice and the reflection from the inclusions. Not sure what that means relative to the crystallographic axis though
