What is this and what's it worth? Gem Tec Supreme
« on: September 03, 2017, 04:13:46 PM »

This has been in our garage for quite sometime.  Belonged to my wife's grandfather.  Interested in parting ways with it since we don't use it.  No idea what it's worth?  Ideas?

A picture showing its condition would help.  Below is the only info I can find with a quick search.  Don't know the date of posting on a forum but I think theimage 1 has passed away if my memory is accurate, so it could be from several years ago.  The link below no longer works but you can check other similar machines for comparison.

"theimage1:
The Gem-Tec machines were made and sold in the middle 1970's and maybe in the early 1980's. About the closest thing to their original model today is the Kingsley North 6" diamond grinding and polishing machine.  With a set of 6 new wheels it sells for just under $1200. (80-120 grit hard wheels - 325, 600, 1200, 3000 flex wheels)

"I saw a few of the Gem-Tec machines at Quartzsite for sale last year, but didn't price them as I was not in the market to buy one. Try this page for a picture and description ...

"It wouldn't surprise me if Gem-Tec and Diamond Pacific have some relationship. Maybe the early owners or engineers at Gem-Tec started or were somehow related to Diamond Pacific. Gem-Tec was one of the early pioneers with the resin diamond wheels."

Thanks for the info.  I tried to post a pic but couldn't find a good hosting site.  Do you have a favorite?

Just upload your picture directly to the forum.  Resize it to about 600 x 800 and you're good to go!

That's a really great machine and appears to be almost unused.  DC motor, all diamond wheels.  I wouldn't consider anything less than $500 and it could bring up to $750 if you are patient and willing to put time into advertising in enough places.  That of course assumes it works properly.  Plug it in and run the speed up and down a few times.  Then let it run for five minutes.  There should be no noise other than the hum of the motor and wheels turning and no vibration.  If the housing is still cool, you are good to go.
