Oregon Blue Agate
« on: March 29, 2019, 02:48:34 PM »

"Blue" is a relative term, but it's blue compared to the dirt beside it so we'll go with that!

This is all the same vein, the swirly banded material is one side of the deposit and the starry-night stuff is the other side. The brighter blue is pretty fractured, so slabs are still small. Will dig into it a bit and see if I can get some more solid material. The vein was exposed on a bare spot where a juniper had burned, so I don't know how much of the color and fracturing is due to the "natural heat-treating" of exposure to juniper-wood fire. It's on my "to polish" list, soon as I get the equipment into the new shop space!

I hope the color holds up. I have seen rock come out of the ground blue but turn grey when was cut and dried out. I like the starry night piece. It would still be pretty if it turns grey! It’s all pretty right now

Gorgeous! That little horseshoe bend in the cloudy one is quaint as all get out. Amazing the variation in a single vein!
