New thunder egg bed
« on: May 14, 2021, 01:53:13 PM »

Two years ago I was elk hunting with a friend and we got up on a knoll and got thoroughly distracted by the streamers of common opal in the rhyolite rimrock. Didn't get any elk that trip, but marked the spot for investigation later! Finally made it back up there last week, and sure enough there's eggs.

Probably 3/4ths of what I brought down was duds but the last few cut really well. It's in the Donnybrook neighborhood but on private property; most of the land is private in that area, but also most of it hasn't been prospected for thunder egg beds in 40+ years so there's a lot still out there to find!

Wonderful stuff. I will be in
Madras for a few days at some point this summer and would love to buy some of the solid colored eggs for bead making. Have fun.
