Just another Montana agate
« on: May 18, 2023, 02:05:22 AM »

18x13mm cab, cut from a small slab of Montana agate. Such a wonderful material to work with, isn't it? From sorting through all the potatoe-looking rough and windowing and candling to try and discern the best orientation, to accepting your own mistakes and the stone's fractures, to admiring the curiously shaped inclusions that seem to repeat themselves in thousands of stones across thousands of years...

Beautiful stone and great choice on the orientation. Looks like the dendrites are exploding from the flames....

Very nice work.  I love the "purity" of the Montana's and by that I mean the water clear agate and then either with Dendrites or the smoky colors has always been a love of mine also.  There is also an art to extracting the right pictures within the rough that gives us all a welcome challenge I think.
