Actinolite pendant
« on: February 03, 2023, 05:55:38 PM »

The best piece of Washington actinolite I have ever found, the most saturated color and absolutely wild chatoyancy and a solidness I've never seen before.  This pendant is 53 mm long, 25 mm wide, 2.5 mm hole.

Very nice indeed.  Reminds me of the attached piece in the museum of natural history, Oxford, England.  From Corsica, southern France, it is called smaragdite. It is a mixture of diopside and actinolite-tremolite, coloured a particularly bright and beautiful green by the presence of trace chromium, within a grey-white matrix of plagioclase feldspar.  When I clapped eyes on this six inch wide polished specimen in Oxford I vowed never to rest until I found another piece just as vibrant.

Mixes similar to that used to be very common here but we no longer get rain events that turn over the gravel of the streams.

That one came out really nice.  Those mineral blades can get brittle.

Beautiful. Never seen actinolite that light green before. All our actinolite around here is very dark green and is in the asbestos form.
