Wedding Present for Nephew
« on: August 17, 2016, 04:02:31 AM »

Hi folks,
Finally finished this and thought I should share it.
The outer heart is cut from Marble, the inner two are Lapis. Darker one was sold as Denim Lapis and the lighter as Lapis Lazuli. The base is slate.
Has taken me some time but it seems worth it.

Beautiful and ambitious.  I didn't get a scale from my quick view and I am assuming its an indoor piece.

Hi peruano,
Yes it is an indoor piece. Height 17cm, width 20cm and depth 15cm.
I have also had to custom make a box for it. Still working out the closure but getting there.

It looks like the darker stone has some translucence to it but probably just the photo, Lapis won't have that.  From what I have experienced Lapis is the darker or more pure in color and the Denim Lapis was just a marketing ploy to add some interest in what was the lowest grade of Lapis which was more muted and pale.  Giving it a hip name worked and it became popular, so you might have the name/colors flipped.
Very cool piece and very creative.

Sorry Irockhound, posted that picture in the wrong area it should be with the enstatite pendent not with the wedding present.
I know that this is not lapis. How do I move this post to the correct area?

That's a great piece! Did you do the bezel setting too?

Yes the bezel settings are mine as well. I am still trying to perfect my silver work as to me it never looks very good.

They're good... the tricky points have been taken care of neatly. Good work!

Thank you.
My time is limited due to home commitments. I have 3 pieces sitting in my shed waiting to be finished. Just does not help with the continuity.
