Southern eagle ray in nephrite
« on: April 11, 2020, 06:25:28 PM »

The second carving to come out of isolation is now done. It is a southern eagle ray in nephrite jade from Tamworth, NSW, Australia. I traded this stone with the owner of the mine for some jade knives a while back. Very fine grained and always nice to work, is very hard so takes a great polish and is chore to sand.

This is second ray I have done, I will post the manta ray that I finished last year soon. I like to use correct proportions so opted for silver for the tail rather than the thick stone tails some carvers prefer to use. The bead on the end is to stop the owner poking an eye out. On the manta ray I used a different approach but prefer this one.

That is stunning!  I love the amount of detail you got in there and the tail is perfect.  You have an amazing talent and I really enjoy seeing your creations.  Thanks for sharing this guy.
