Fancy filigree and malachite pendants
« on: January 03, 2018, 01:03:24 PM »

As usual, my wife roped me into making some pieces for Xmas presents for her co-workers.  I cut the stones and my daughter dreamt up some of the silver designs.  Everything is in Argentium style sterling silver.  I was pleased with the results over all.

Those look very well made. Nice work!

Very pretty!  I especially like the one on the left in the middle row.

Your wife must really like her coworkers to give them beautiful pieces like that.  i like the top one best, it looks like there may be some chatoyance there.  I had a couple chatoyant pieces of malachite and that was some of my favorite material to work.  I wish I knew where it came from.

Well, it's kind of a trade.  I have folks in my research group over for a holiday party every year and my wife usually takes the day off to cook all kinds of fancy stuff.  So I pay that back and made a bunch of gifts for her co-workers.

Very lacy and airy looking. Love them!  The delicacy of the design mkes me think of snowflakes somehow. Can I ask was this a particular kind of wire you used? Is it on RioGrande? Thanks in advance.

I used some square wire and some twisted pattern wire.  The twisted wire needs to be annealed and sent through the roller once to work well for filigree wire.  All of the silver material was from Rio.

Oh, I never thought of rolling twisted wire. Thanks!
