Below are some pictures from a very successful rock hounding trip in search of jade in a local creek. Very low august water levels made for good access to the entire creek bed. We found a variety of colors and types of jade as well as a few interesting mystery rocks. I was the photographer and rock carrier today and got some pictures of lithicbeads descending into the creek and posing with a piece of jade. Among the other creatures in the creek today besides lithicbeads and I were some salmon smolts, ravens, steller's jay, barn swallow, american dipper, chestnut-backed chickadee and a toad that lithicbeads will introduce to everyone in his own post.

Looks like you had a really nice trip. Thanks for pictures. I'm always so envious of you guys being able to just go to the creek or shore and collect in such beautiful scenery. Stellars jays are one of my favorite birds. When we lived on the mountain we had them around. Not down where we bought our house. I miss them.

I was agood Daddy and bought her a quarter ton of poultry food for her menagerie. I like the mixed trips , I feel less selfish for getting such good collecting about 1.25 hours from Seattle. You would think more folks would be there but we are always the only people.We walked past about a dozen 200lb and up jades but none seemed worthy of the effort to get them out and cut them.

Sounds like a good trade off Frank - she hauls your rock and you buy the food for her flock. Works for me! :D

Some of the flock became yummy dinner in the freezer today too. And yes, there was definitely too much jade to take it all home, just the oddball and possibly really nice stuff came home with us. No big pieces today mostly small cobbles. Thunderstorms tonight and predicted on and off for the next few days, but I am sure when it is clear some of today's haul will get cut up and start the process of becoming pendants.

Yummy dinner is always good. I can bet one of the flock will end up as Thanksgiving dinner at that in a few months. ;D

Nice looking hike and rocks. It nice that surplus fowl can find a home in the freezer but not surplus pack members, we Americans are strange, we kill dogs, cats, horses by the ton and send them the land fill but a fowl never goes to waste

That water looks very nice. We covet running water here in Tucson. Not only it looks very refreshing, you found some neat rocks. I am sure there are some pendants in those rocks. Eric.

The relationship you two have is envious. My daughter lives too far away and since Jimmy got his leg busted up I am now carrying his rocks. lol Needless to say we do not wander far from the pickup now for both reasons. I turned the electric heat off and the gas heat on today so it will be spring before he is back to carrying my rocks again.
Before I said that Frank must be the toughest nut in the tree. Now I am thinking there are two really tough nuts in that tree.

Hi, Injured spine. I later was paralyzed below the waist for two years. I am out of the wheel chair and on crutches for a number of years but can't balance well enough to get out in the jade streams, just the beaches.

Really? You had some difficulties. I'm happy that you are better than previous years. Don't worry my friend. Keep positive attitude. Don't go to jade streams for safe, but go to the beaches! More easy way and easier accessibility. Look at the picture (click the picture below) in the beach and let your mind to imagine.... :wink:
If you cannot find where is this place.....this place is in California! The outcrop of Serpentine on the right of photo(this photo is from Barbra Voltaire, FGG) below would be long gone. You could drive directly from the Beach to the Golden Gate Bridge. So, some beaches have unexpected treasures!
