Spammers
« on: January 05, 2019, 05:30:03 PM »

I'm posting this just in case...

We have been hit recently by a huge influx of spammers.  We have been able to nail all of them before they got a chance to post.

However should one manage to slip through, please report the posting.  DO NOT respond to the posting, or click any links in it since we have no idea what these troglodites will be posting and no one wants viruses or trojans on their computer.

Thank you and happy rocking!   :icon_sunny:

Folks,
We are being randomly attacked by some spam bot that has latched onto this forum.
None of them have gotten through our safety net so far.  However we have banned about 20 spammers today, and it was all the same bot spoofing random IP addresses and email addresses of real people.  If you notice the forum slowing down, it could be this bot trying to make many new accounts at once and burdening the system.
We are working on a remedy to the problem.

I did some sly work on the registration section - added new questions and then put the common part of the names the bot was making into the reserved name list, which means a name cannot be made with it!  If I don't see any more registrations by the bot come Morning I know I fixed things.
