Outrageous Cab Contest November/December 2018
« on: November 02, 2018, 07:30:28 AM »

Rules:
1) Cab must be made by you.
2) Cab must be made within the time period of this contest.  Contest begins on the first of the month and ends on 11:59 p.m. on the last day of the month.  NO pulling old cabs from your storage baskets!
3) As long as the basic shape is considered a cab it's golden.  You can enter intarsias and carved top cabs such as cameos etc.  After all, this is the OUTRAGEOUS cab contest!  We love free form cabs!  Pull out the stops and give us the best you have!
4) One entry per person please!
5) Please show photos of your slabs and preforms if you can so we can see your thought process and how you did things.
6) No finished jewelry pieces.  Just the cab.
7) Cab sets are OK.
8) This is only for bragging rights and your cabochon photo posted up top in the forums unless someone posts a lapidary related prize and wants to ship it to the winner of the contest.

Let the games begin!!!   :toothy10:

Thanks, to carve a stone I found myself gives me much pleasure, very lucky to live in a region that has the most rhodonite - manganese deposits world wide, would be good to see more entry's .

I think I'm going to do what I have in the past and make this a 2 month contest because of Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Folks seem to be too busy around the holidays to cut stones (myself included), so the contest is extended until the end of December.

Hopefully that will help get some more entries in to compete with that beautiful entry!

Nice work auscaver!
I managed a little time on cab machine with the long weekend. This is the outer layer of a Celestite geode from the Hanksville area. The small fractures are healed.

Due to serious back pain it's been a while since I've been able to do any cab work.  Today was the first day in several months I've felt good enough to cut, so I worked this little piece of Bruneau jasper for the contest.  These small pieces attached to the rhyolite can be a little tricky because the rhyolite penetrates the jasper to an unpredictable distance.  I was lucky on this one: no pits or discoloration on the dark brown area.

I guess I will jump in with this Laguna Agate I found in a bunch of stuff I got when I bought the stock from a closed rock shop.

Some great cabs starting to rock the contest.   :headbang:

I'm hoping to get something cut to enter this time (after I finish 4 pendants I promised to do before Xmas).   :coffee1:
