Hi there,
I am looking to set up my own little workshop to cut some small pieces of stone and make cabochons. Unfortunately I live in northeast Ohio where the weather isn't always pleasant so I need to do my stuff indoors. My garage isn't insulated or heated so I'm thinking of using the abundant space I have in my basement. For my own personal protection I have gloves, half-mask respirator with filters meant for small particles, safety glasses and an apron. My question is how do I prevent fine bits of rock dust and water mist from polluting my basement and possibly my house? I was looking at a couple options, shop-vac with HEPA filter and dust cyclone running close to my tools to catch water mist, making a fume hood on my work bench, or maybe a shop air-cleaner. let me know what you guys think any thanks in advance for any help.

I end up cutting some toxic stuff and if I have any doubts about exposure, I will set up my Fein lead vacuum left over from my days as a contractor. Hepa all the way.
I also use eye, hand and breathing protection when I am working.
If you are worried about the house being contaminated, make sure that the air in the basement is not being circulated throughout the residence. no intake to central heating etc. Then keep your shop tidy. Exposure should be minimal.
I am sure others here will have words of wisdom for you. You should be able to work in a basement with very little impact on the other areas of your home.

Wet wipe and mop. Wear over clothes like sweats while cutting and do not take them into living spaces.
