Sort of a Specimen I GUESS
« on: March 01, 2015, 12:59:36 PM »

We bought this at the Tucson show, there was a guy from Mexico there with bog ol' pieces of Obsidian for sale and he had a buddy at the back of the booth knapping away, making these giant arrowheads.  There was a whole table full of them- hubby thought they were really cool so we picked one out for display.

I would say it is about 5 inches long.

I hope I can get that good at knapping. I haven't knapped anything that big yet.

Yeah the guy was cranking them out and they had a whole pile of big ol' pieces of obsidian- thin, like maybe an inch thick, but big, like 5-8 inches in length and width.  I think we paid like $5 for that.

the knappers sure go through the rock. $5 is a rediculous price for that piece in my mind. Good for you though Mrs.T  :headbang:

$5 is to cheap for something like that.  Granted if they are from Mexico, $5 USD is gold to them and if they sold say 50 of those a day ($250) they covered their gas, food, and lodging in Tucson each day.  Anything over that, especially from selling the rough obsidian would be gravy.
