Need Help With an ID
« on: October 04, 2014, 08:02:48 PM »

Vince and I went to an estate sale today to look at some rocks.  The sale was advertised by our club, so most of the really good stuff, whatever that was, was already gone, but we managed to pick up a few interesting things.  I found this little slab that was so cool looking, I added it to the pile.  No clue what it is and almost nothing there was labeled.  It was the only slab of this that I could find.  Anyone have any clue?  It looks to be some type of plant structure, maybe...   :dontknow:

With my memory it is hard to tell but it seems like I read somewhere about a string or bead coral. It doesn't look like an accident of nature. Maybe it is a necklace fossil.

I've never seen anything like it but sure would grab it up if I did... nice find :headbang:
Here's a page with the exact chain coral pictured, they're called  halysites, if you type that into yahoo images it brings up some fabulous pics of the same structure

WooHoo, we got a name. Now type it three times, Lloyd, Loid, Lou, so I do not forget it. And I am going to have to concede the cigar competition because I can not run to catch a frisbee and I do not have a clue what bocci is. If it is a drinking game I would loose that too.

hahaha Reminds me of watching the Chinese playing a drinking game where they have to drink shots OF BEER.

we'll have to get hummingbirdstones involved because it's his thread and maybe he knows the Italian game of "bocci"; throwing big coloured balls at a small white ball to see who can get closest, I cheat though and count a score for being closest and for hitting the little white ball with one of your own LOL
