Which rotary tumbler?
« on: April 10, 2019, 08:50:35 AM »

 I need to buy  a full sized double barrel tumbler.It will be mostly used for making ceramic glazes from scratch ( rock ) so it will get heavy long use and will need to have easily accessible replacement parts. Any preferences.

The only decent ones I have used were Lortone and Thumlers.  The Lortone isn't terrible but the Thumlers is miles ahead.

  Lortones. because you can get replacement parts anywhere, anytime.   No such thing as a hard used tumbler that does not wear out parts.

The Lortone tumblers have convenient lid systems but the drives wear out pretty quickly.  Thumblers are bullet proof.  I've tossed several Lortones but my one Thumblers has been working for years.

I live too close to Lortone to buy their equipment. You don't want to know how the sausage is made. Not the same company it was years ago.

Lithic;

a;  do you really want a 2 barrel tumbler?
b;  what is full size in your desires, 12, 20 or maybe 45 pounds as I have had
:   I agree, the steel barrels are far superior to Lorton's plastic ones
c:   is price a factor?
I found that steel barrels on a homemade roller unit using 4 12 pound capacity barrels worked really well for me. Building a four barrel roller was cheap and fairly easy.

Thumbler was a good choice. I bought a 15 lb one ten years ago. The only problem I have had was I wore out the rubber insert in the drum.
