MK blade width in 24 inch MK 301 or MK 303
« on: March 24, 2022, 03:08:00 AM »

Trying to find out what width of blades are available in the MK series blades that are 24 inch. I see the .100 width but assume there are other blade widths available. Also, the age old question of is the 301 better than the 303? Which would you buy if money was not a consideration?
This will be for cutting a bunch of large BC Jade chunks and then some agates and jaspers.

Don't have the answer right off hand, but you could go to the mk diamond website and look it up. mkdiamond.com

Look for lapidary blades.

Pretty sure the width is always the same for each model number.

I know the smaller diameter blades are available in different rim thicknesses, but not the larger ones.

I have been really impressed by the 301 after using 303 for years.

But the MK site does not show a 24" 301;  only the 303.
Off the top of my head the 303 is often considered a tougher blade (is it a thicker core material); but the 301 may cut more precisely.
If both models were available my characterization might be worth deliberating, but if the 301 is not available, its moot.

I checked out the MK site and it seems my only option is the MK-303....  Not like buying smaller blades where you have many options. thanks all for the input

The 303 is segmented in the larger sizes. That's a great blade.

I like the 14" 301 much better than the continuous rim 303 for our drop saw. The 303 is rated for higher RPM so I slowed it down and that was good for a drop saw.

Started to get the segmented 303 for our 18", but the 14" 301 worked so well I tried it on the 18" saw. It worked great. If I ever need to replace the 18" I'll try the segmented 303 to speed it up a little.

Here are the RPM guidelines - for anyone who might not have seen them: https://www.mkdiamond.com/lapidary/tec_speed.html

Happy Slabbing!
