(Early) Spring Wildflower Trip
« on: April 13, 2015, 08:38:11 AM »

Every year, around my birthday, my wife and I travel to one of our favorite spots in the Olympic Mountains to photograph the wild flowers. We have been returning to this same spot for 6 years now.

With the unseasonable warm winter and lack of snow, we thought we should go a couple of weeks early, just in case. It was totally worth it.

The Native Chocolate Lilies were just past their peak, by about a day. Usually they aren't in flower for another two weeks yet. The Fawn lilies as well were just past prime.

A special treat was to find the fairy slipper orchid. Very Rare! I've only seen it blooming one other time.

Gorgeous photos!  I love the flowers.  Lady Slippers are so beautiful, yet so rare.  It's great to see some still existing in their native habitat.
Happy Birthday!   :headbang:

I believe I have that orchid by my studio in a damp shady area.   I'll take a picture when it blooms to be sure.   I live in Mississippi, that's a bit of difference from your local.

Happy birthday.
