Another thing on my list was stone boxes. I have been wanting to do this for a long time. Finally figured just do it, and if it goes sideways oh well. I picked some slabs of Mexican Calico Onyx and took 2 that were book marked (Consecutive slices) and made myself a simple jig out of plywood for epoxying Intarsia that turned out perfect even if it is crude and simple. I glued the 2 halves to get the center band and then cut the sides to try and match as best as possible. I cut the feet from the darker slab sections to match the colors of the lower base. For the lid handle I again took a piece of the bookmarked material so the handle has the same pattern running thru it. To make sure that it had the strength I wanted I cut the standoff under the handle and glued the standoff and handle first with 330. I then measure and marked a drill for length and drilled thru the standoff and halfway thru the handle the diameter of a nail. I then filed the nail head to remove any burrs and cut the length so the nail head is on the underside of the lid and the nail runs thru the lid into the standoff and handle and this is also epoxied with 330. The feet create a natural stop on the inside of the box for the box bottom which I used a piece of hardwood and stained it. I have got more refined ideas for the next boxes but that means much more labor and points of failure but it will be fun to try.
