Welcome from Canada! It's a small group of active users here, but it is all real people. No data analytics, no marketing campaigns, no robots, no spam.

There is a lot of good advice - use the search function, and also make sure to visit the archive of the old forum site at https://lapidaryforum.net/gemstone/ - this archive also has it's own search function.

Looking forward to learning more about your beryls and jade!

Thanks! i have been rockhounding for years and have a huge collection of self mined beryl from mica schists calcite veins and some glacial deposits. a very large nephrite and black jade collection and a few jadeites. i am new to the craft s i bought a faceting machine a grinder and trim saw to begin . i have so far noticed that crystals arent tough against high speed grinding since i notice many cracks erupting especially when they overheat .

Interesting beryl. In the western US where I live we have few beryl collecting places but they have nice  in situ stones. The red ones from the Wah Wah mountains in Utah are extremely nice but rare and the ones from Alpine collecting in Idaho are far less spectacular in color but more common if you can climb mountains well. The Idaho ones I have collected.
