I thought I would go back to the Deadman one last time and explore the left side of the 1000ft. ocean bed/ash/ flash flood/pyroclastic/volcanic; not in exactly that order or just one time, area I found the jasper in. I spent the whole morning going left and searching up all the dry washes I could find to see what had come down, then in the afternoon I climbed up to the bottom of the actual cliffs and walked/skittered/clambered along the face checking out what the various layers had to offer. By the time I got back to the bush beater at 4 pm. all I can say is that I had a fun day but boy was I tired; most of the rocks I collected were as I was looking round in the morning so I carried them the rest of the day; uphill.
some pet wood, about 3#
some jet black jasper; about 15#
a flattened sequoia tree; 55-60 mya. carbonized from heat and pressure then silified
some more sequoia but not pushed over; about 20" diameter
this hangs over you all day long and you have to wonder when somethings going to let go
hope you don't have vertigo
a selfie from the same spot
of course the scenery was great and I did stop and look around once in a while:)
not much to show for it but a lot of exercise and fresh air; I'll take that anyday
