Title: Enstitite
Post by: lithicbeads on May 10, 2019, 07:25:16 PM
This 4 lb enstitite was flashing its chatoyancy at me at the beach.  It will be a series of pendants soon.

Of the stones you sent me a few summers back the enstitite was my favorite.  It was challenging at times but rewarding when it came out nice.

Can we see the cabs from this? I’m not very familiar with this stone.

Never heard of enstitite - surely it is enstatite? If so, that's quite a find! Do you get stars or cat's eyes from it?

It's enstatite , we have lots of it. It has schiller like spectrolie but in one color. The main problem is to find a small enough one to take home as they are like jade ,  they are often very big and they resent being broken , fibrous and tough but not too hard at mohs 5.

I was trying to find a picture of a cab I cut from the pieces Frank sent me then I realized I had a short video already up on youtube.

Thanks. I'd only seen the transparent faceted and cabbed star varieties from Asia and Africa.

With all the enstatite we have we unfortunately do not seem to have any crystals
 of it
