Title: Tasmanian Stichite in Serpentine
Post by: Asianfire on March 21, 2017, 05:46:28 AM
Finally got a piece I'm really happy with.
Or FB challenge this month is about March/Mars (colour, planets or gods/aliens association).

So this serpentine with its bright green colour came in handy.

I think I got my challenge picture. Does not look like it could get any better than that. Somehow, I really like it. Wear it since last week and get some curious stares

Thanks for looking, Kurt

Great looking alien, Kurt!  As always, great job on the carving.  I can imagine that the alien would invoke some curious stare from people!   :icon_sunny:

It is a work that impresses at first sight.
Very interesting the folds of the face and neck.
Asianfire, what tools do you use to define curves?

Thank you both for your kind words.

I use mostly inverted cones here. But be reminded that this is a rather soft material, so they cut quick and deep fast.

Sorry, I remain on the sidelines when it comes to selling.
For me, there is a lot of luck involved when it comes to things like that.
Here in this case things just worked out fabolously.
Material and limited skills just united for a change to produce something that I'm really happy with for a change.
I am working on another, but in Chinese nephrite, and possibly a third after that.
While starting with the same basic design, it will look very different.
I can very well envision that this one will be the better one of the 3.

Nice work Kurt, you got a great expression in this piece. You certainly handle the softer materials well.

Not at all, Its an honour.

Thanks Southerly. Not always. The angel with the same material was a washout last year.
