any opinions on 1200x zirconium oxide grit?
« on: January 20, 2019, 04:35:38 PM »

I saw this stuff on ebay, 10lbs for 30 bucks seems like a smokin' deal... if it works. I've never heard of it, anyone here have experience with it?

It is used with steel and is effective in the very coarse range. It has other quirks as well and it does not work in some steel applications.I think this fine grit may have no market and may be worthless.

Zirconia is an extremely hard tough ceramic.  Unlike silicon carbide, it will not self sharpen.  It will continue to get less abrasive as it wears.  In metal working this is a super premium material normally used only where very high tolerance grinding on hard materials is required.  It may make a super prepolish in tumbling, or it may just be a dud.  It would be interesting to find out.  That is a giveaway price for what is normally a very expensive product.
