Collector pieces
« on: December 17, 2016, 04:01:39 PM »

Not sure if this is the right place to put this but.... :dontknow:
I have been working up a bunch of Trent agate and I have found that most of the buyers that I am dealing with are not making jewelry out of the pieces but rather adding them to their collections.
I have taken on cutting shaped, polished flat sided pieces of high quality material for folks to display or just stash for their own pleasure. These are polished on both sides and ready to display are stash for an investment.
The response has been good to this point and I thought I might share this series of pieces as I complete them.
Here is the first.
Is there a place for "collector pieces" or "art pieces"?
Off topic, I hate ice in my shop!
What do you think?

I would display pieces like that. I have a 6 x 12 inch slab of tiger iron that I can't bring myself to cut. I'm going to polish and display.

This is a fine place to put your collector pieces, which are stunning and definitely rock art!   :icon_sunny:

I will cut anything! I see two great cabs in that first one. I like to display rock art in silver.   Vic

Well, the holiday season almost completely wiped out my stash of Trent collector pieces.   Today I am in the shop cutting more.
Here is the first of them. I did cut a taper on the girdle of this one as it has a much stronger pattern on one side so it could be bezeled if someone was so inspired.
46x35x7  70.5 ct. polished with a low dome on the front and a flat back...
What do you think?  :dontknow:

Some real "show" pieces. I've not seen a Trent agate quite like that before!

The light was not good today but I did get another finished.
57x35x7mm flat polish both sides...
One of the things that I have found is that there are stringers of what I believe to be hematite in the rind. They polish up metallic.
There is also a fair amount of arsenopyrite? in the chalcedony portion of the rock.
Hard to get a shot today that does this one justice.
