Shockingly blue jade
« on: June 14, 2020, 05:54:12 PM »

When I found this in bright sunlight I was absolutely stunned.  At first I thought it was lapis, but knowing there is no lapis here, I thought it was sodalite, but knowing there is no sodalite here, I thought it was dumoritite.  But there is no dumoritite here.  I picked it up and it was jade!  The rind is probably the only blue part. The inside might be jet black.

Yeah - that's a great specimen.

So now what? Slice it down the middle to make two specimens?

I know I'd have to have a look inside.

There is blue jade in California but it’s that bright a blue.
Are you going to cut it and see what is inside?

Holy moley, that is really blue!

I would absolutely have to peek inside to see in there.

Excellent find, Frank!

Wow! How can it be jade? That is amazing. I don't know how you have waited this long to see what is inside. If you cut it in half and it turns out to be normal inside you could still possibly make two amazing carvings, keeping the rind otherwise intact as is?
